Thank you for choosing Dr. Lindsay Keith for your upcoming surgery. To ensure a successful and smooth surgical experience, please carefully follow these pre-operative instructions:

  1. Follow Fasting Guidelines: Please do not eat or drink anything after midnight, the night before your surgery. It is crucial to have an empty stomach before surgery to minimize the risk of complications. Failure to comply with fasting instructions may result in the delay or cancellation of your surgery. You may take a sip of water with blood pressure medications, all other medications should be held until after surgery. If you have a question about a specific medication, please call the office.
  2. Medication and Supplements: Inform Dr. Lindsay Keith and the surgical team about all medications and supplements you are currently taking, including prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal supplements. Follow instructions regarding which medications to continue or discontinue prior to surgery.
  3. Smoking: It is strongly recommended to abstain from smoking 2-4 weeks before surgery. Both can interfere with the healing process and increase the risk of complications.
  4. Arrange Transportation: Arrange for a responsible adult (must be over 18 years old) to accompany you to the surgical facility and drive you back home after the procedure. Due to the effects of anesthesia, you will not be allowed to drive yourself.
  5. Arrange for Assistance: If needed, make arrangements for someone to assist you at home during the initial recovery period. This support will ensure your safety and comfort as you heal.
  6. Prepare Your Home: Before your surgery, make your home recovery-friendly. Create a clean and comfortable space where you can rest and have easy access to essential items, including medications, water, comfortable clothing, and necessary equipment as advised by our team.
  7. Hygiene and Dressing: Follow instructions regarding pre-operative showering or bathing, and wear clean, loose-fitting clothing to the surgical facility. You will be able to wear a bra after surgery, so you can bring one with you to surgery. Avoid applying any creams, lotions, perfumes, or makeup on the day of surgery.
  8. Nourishment and Hydration: Maintain a healthy diet leading up to your surgery to promote optimal healing. Stay adequately hydrated by drinking plenty of water, unless otherwise instructed.
  9. Communicate Any Changes: If there are any changes to your health status, such as the development of a fever, cough, or any other concerning symptoms, please notify our office immediately. It is essential to ensure that you are in the best possible health for your surgery.
  10. Follow Pre-Op Instructions: Adhere to any additional pre-operative instructions provided by Dr. Lindsay Keith and the surgical team. These instructions may be specific to your surgical procedure and tailored to your individual needs.

Please remember that these pre-operative instructions are general guidelines. It is important to follow the instructions provided to you by Dr. Lindsay Keith and her team, as they may be modified based on your unique medical history and the specific requirements of your surgery.

You may have a visit with the Pre-Anesthesia Team (PAT) for labs, EKG and to discuss further instructions. You will typically get a phone call the day before surgery to clarify instructions as well.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your pre-operative instructions, please do not hesitate to contact our office. We are here to support you and ensure a successful surgical experience.
